San Sebastian Street Festival

San Juan

Celebrated annually on the third weekend of January, the “Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastian” marks the end of the Christmas season with a four-day street festival of extravagant proportions. It all begins Thursday night with a boisterous parade along Calle San Sebastian, featuring festival mainstays “vegigantes y cabezudos” (figures from Puerto Rican history, depicted with oversized papier-mâché heads). Days are calmer and more focused on live music and local craftsmen; nights belong to the youngsters and adventerous. (sansepr.com)

Festival Casals de Puerto Rico

Returning for its 57th season, the Festival Casals de Puerto Rico brings some of the world’s most talented musicians to San Juan each spring. Originally founded by world-renowned cellist and conductor Pablo Casals, the 2013 edition welcomes the Puerto Rico Symphonic Orchestra as well as the Grammy Award-winning Takács Quartet, esteemed Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder and the stunningly inventive Stockholm 59° North dance troupe, among many others. PGA Puerto Rico Open

“Nocturno de Museo”

“Interconnections: Curatorial Readings from the Permanent Collection”

Get to know the definitive collection of Puerto Rican art in this exhibition, with works in media ranging from paintings, drawings and sculpture to photography and installation. “Emilio Sanchez: Light, Line, and Shadow”

The Museum of Art of Ponce owns the largest collection of Cuban artist Emilio Sanchez’s works, which include lithographs and paintings that depict the architecture of the Caribbean. Great Ballets of the 20th Century

The Puerto Rico Symphonic Orchestra welcomes guest conductor Guillermo Figueroa and solo percussionist Lisa Pegher in a modern reiteration of 20th century illustrious ballet scores.
