From dusk on Sept. 11 to dawn the next day, two blue beams reach 4 miles into the sky as a symbol of remembrance for those who lost their lives on 9/11. The tribute was first lit six months after the attacks and has since been shown annually. The beams of light are visible within a 65-mile radius; the prime viewing spots in Manhattan are at Washington Square Park or the observatories at the Empire State Building. (212-935-3960; mas.org)
